Mitch comes hurdling down the stairs as I go inside to grab a bag of chips. “Miss me already?” he smiles wryly.
I shake my head, “No, Mr. Conceited. I came in for some chips.”
“Is that so?” he asks raising his eyebrows. “I think I can help you get some chips.” He pulls the pantry door shut and all of the air seems to have been sucked out of the room. He drops the football and bag of chips then swiftly entangles his hand in my hair before wrapping an arm firmly around my waist and dipping me. If I wasn’t complete breathless before, I am now. His lips lock with mine and my stomach tightens uncontrollably as every cell in my body is awakened by his kiss. It ends too quickly and he raises me up slowly while stroking my neck with his thumb. “I can’t wait to have you alone,” Mitch whispers softly before releasing me.
The door opens abruptly. I take in a sharp breath before sighing with relief. “I’m just getting some paper plates,” Brian tells us.
“Chips,” Mitch offers as he bends down to pick up the bag he dropped.
“Right,” Brian accuses, looking me over. “I guess that’s why Heather’s still blushing?” I put my hand on my cheek. Am I really blushing? Mitch gives Brian a death stare. Brian punches him lightly on the shoulder. “Relax, man. I know already. Remember?”
Mitch lets out a sigh allowing his shoulders to relax. “Sorry, I just don’t like that we’re so obvious.”
“You’re not that obvious, Mitch. It’s only when you’re caught in a closed closet that it becomes undeniably obvious.” Brian bends down to pick up the football and some paper plates then walks outside.
“Brian has a point,” I say to Mitch. “As much as I wanna kiss you every second of the day, we have got to be more careful.”
“We’ll figure it out.” Mitch says caressing my cheek with his free hand, before giving me a quick kiss on the forehead and walking out the door. I follow a few steps behind him.

“Mitch, was this your idea,” I ask him. He smiles a wicked grin. “You suck!” I shout running up to him and tackling him on the hood of Sammy’s truck. “Look who’s covered in mud now?” Five more cars pull up and Mitch and I are cover in mud. “There’s more?! What’d you do, invite the entire football team?!”
“Maybe,” Mitch says taking a handful of mud and smearing it onto my stomach.
“No you didn’t!” I say climbing on to the hood of the truck in my bikini and daisy duke shorts. I take a hand full and throw it at him. I hit him in the chest.
“Look what you did now,” he says, then takes off his shirt as I scoot back to the windshield. “You can’t get away from me that easily,” he says climbing up on the hood. I throw more mud at him and he retaliates by tickling me and then putting mud in my hair. He’s hovering over me now and I’m trapped beneath him. Something about being covered in mud on the hood of Sammy’s truck with him is utterly romantic. I take two handfuls of mud and rub them into his hair. “I can do that too,” I tell him. Then I smear some on his face and wrap my legs around him, pinning him to me so that he can’t get away.
I smear dirt slowly onto his face and everything seems to still as he looks at me. Every sound, everyone in the background disappears. It’s only me and him. Nothing else matters. I bring my mud covered hands up to his neck. He just watches me like nothing else exists, like I’m the only thing in his world. Everything is in slow motion as I run my hands down his chest with mud. He moans softly then comes to his knees bringing me with him, before Stacy throws a big clump of mud at his back.
